The Defense Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) may be awarded to any member of the United States or foreign Armed Forces, on active duty or inactive reserve, who distinguishes himself or herself by heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service. The Defense Meritorious Service Medal is awarded for outstanding noncombat meritorious achievement or service to the US when the level of achievement or service is less than that required for the Legion of Merit. |
