Technical Sergeant Joel Johnson distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States as an Air Sovereignty Alert (ASA) Detachment F-16 Crew Chief, 162nd Fighter Wing, Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, from 12 September 2001 to 30 September 2011. During this period, the outstanding professional skill, leadership, and extraordinary efforts of Sergeant Johnson resulted in the ASA Detachment being recognized as having the best programs, facilities, and F-16 maintainers in the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Sergeant Johnson's repeated success over a period of ten years has produced outstanding results during Air Combat Command (ACC), NORAD, First Air Force NORTH, Air Education and Training Command, and 355th and 162nd Fighter Wing inspections. His direct involvement was instrumental in enabling the 162nd Fighter Wing ASA DET to achieve an overall "Outstanding" in 2007, "Best F-16 Alert maintenance unit in NORAD" in 2009, United States Air Force, National Guard Bureau and First Air Force NORTH Unit of the Year 2009 Awards and "NORAD IG Mission Ready," with zero findings in 2010. In addition, Sergeant Johnson executed numerous mission critical launch and recovery operations, returning aircraft to service on time and in near perfect condition. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Johnson reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Air Force.
