Counseling for Not Shaving

During April's drill (4 April through 6 April, 2025), I, TSgt Singleton, advised you, SSgt Bethel, that your beard did not comply with Air Force Dress and Personal Appearance standards as outlined in DAFI 36-2903. You received a verbal notice from me regarding guidance on your appearance. You were permitted time to leave your duty station to shave and comply with the standards.

On 23 April 2025, I provided you with documentation from the medical group regarding the necessary paperwork to ensure your compliance with DAFI 36-2903 before reporting for duty on 03 May 2025. You advised that you would not follow the orders to shave, as given by the medical provider of the 162nd Med Group, as this order would require you to shave against the medical advice of your primary care physician. It was explained that the medical group requested to examine the listed medical condition and determine eligibility for a shaving waiver.

You are being issued this Letter of Counseling for failure to follow a direct order. You, SSgt Bethel, are ordered to immediately comply with the orders given and shave your beard to standards IAW DAFI 36-2903.
